AI Animation Tools Review<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI animation tools have made it easier than ever for individuals to produce high quality animated content. In this article, I review some of the available AI animation tools, based on my research into the tools, their features, their ease of use, the quality of their output, and the relevance of those tools to the animation industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Runway ML (Gen-2)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Runway ML is one of the most powerful AI animation tools currently available. Runway ML\u2019s Gen-2 AI model allows for video clips to be generated from text prompts, images, and video clips (Runway, 2023). This platform is extremely easy to use, and is widely used by individuals as ranging from beginners of animation software to professionals. Runway ML has even been used in the creation of several major films from Hollywood studios, and it won an Academy Award for its contributions to the film industry. The free plan for Runway ML allows for 125 credits to be used for generating videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OpenAI Sora<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

OpenAI\u2019s Sora is arguably the most talked about AI animation tool in recent years. Released in 2024, Sora allows for the creation of photorealistic video clips up to one minute in length from a text prompt (OpenAI, 2024). The quality of videos created with Sora are of remarkable quality, as it has an understanding of the physical world and how objects move within those videos. However, Sora is not yet available for the general public, but is instead currently in use only by a select group of individuals. As the tool becomes available to the public, though, it has the potential to revolutionise the animation industry entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adobe Firefly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Adobe Firefly allows for the creation of visual elements for various Adobe Creative Cloud software, such as Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere Pro (Adobe, 2023). The Firefly tool allows those using Adobe software to create visual elements such as images, textures, backgrounds, and visual effects. Furthermore, Adobe has committed to training Firefly to use only licensed content, ensuring that the visual elements created are not subject to copyright laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ElevenLabs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

ElevenLabs is a tool that allows users to create various AI voices for characters and media projects (ElevenLabs, 2023). Furthermore, users can clone existing voices or create new voices. ElevenLabs is of interest to animators to create AI voices for characters in media projects without the need to hire voice actors for each character. Furthermore, the free plan for ElevenLabs is very generous in terms of the amount of projects that can be created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pika Labs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Pika Labs is a relatively new tool in the world of AI animation software. Pika Labs allows users to create video clips from text or images, and is particularly known for its creation of more artistic and stylised animations (Pika, 2023). Pika Labs offers a free plan for users interested in the software, and its accessibility to beginners learning how to use AI animation tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google DeepMind Lumiere<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Google DeepMind\u2019s Lumiere is an AI model that allows for the creation of realistic videos of characters and features in motion (Google DeepMind, 2024). Furthermore, unlike other AI models, the videos generated by Lumiere are generated as a single video rather than a series of individual frames of video. Although not yet available for general use, Google DeepMind\u2019s Lumiere model is one of the tools to watch in the future for AI animation tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personal Review<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Each of the tools available for AI animation is impressive in its own right. However, the tool that made the most lasting impression on me was Runway ML. The ability to generate a video clip from text alone is remarkable, and the quality of the videos that are created by Runway ML far exceed my expectations. Furthermore, generating an original video with Runway ML allowed me to gain an insight into the transformative power of this tool, a feature that would have taken days of effort from an animation team to create could be performed in a matter of seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ElevenLabs is also a tool that I have found to be impressive. For instance, ElevenLabs was used to generate the voice for the character in my game Plushtopia, and the voices that were generated sounded remarkably realistic. Overall, the tool is very easy to use, it creates professional quality videos, and the free plan is generous enough for individuals to experiment with the available features. As such, I would recommend ElevenLabs to other animators or game developers looking to incorporate AI voices into their projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The video below is a visual example of just what Runway ML is capable of. I came up with a random prompt for the animation that I wanted to create and the software was able to execute it beautifully with sound effects and the details I described such as the paper hat!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
